Dress Up a Salad

A green salad is a great compliment to any meal. Best served before the main entrée, a salad acts as an appetizer and helps us digest the remainder of the meal. A basic salad usually consists of lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, and tomatoes. To make it more interesting, experiment with some other salad greens like arugula, water cress, and escarole. Topped off with extra virgin olive oil, we have a delicious and nutritious start to the meal.

Here are some other ingredients that will help dress up a salad.

  • Raisins

  • Dried cranberries

  • Kumquats

  • Avocado

  • Nuts

  • Sunflower seeds

  • Olives

  • Minced garlic

  • Purple onion

  • Colored peppers

  • Fresh herbs like oregano, basil, or parsley
