Healthy Days and Nourishing Ways

Cooking is becoming a lost art with huge availability of prepared, frozen, and canned foods everywhere from gas stations and drug stores to supermarkets and club stores. Fast food operations are on nearly every corner and dozens of restaurant chains are commonplace. However, pizza, hamburgers, fried chicken, and French fries can all be made at home. Not only will these items cost less, they will be fresher and made from ingredients you picked, not someone else. And speaking of such, don’t cheat yourself by buying the lowest quality and lowest cost ingredients. If you are willing to spend $8.00 or more on one hamburger and one order of French fries at a sit-down restaurant, why is spending $5.00 or $6.00 on a package of organic ground beef that was made from cows that ate grass (what they are supposed to eat) too much to spend? Add some organic potatoes at $4.00 or less for a 3 pound bag and a salad and voilà! you have a great healthy meal. So for about $4.00 or less per person you have a meal for 3 or 4 people plus you’ve made a great investment in your family’s health!

Without listing each ingredient as such, all the recipes listed should be made using the best possible ingredients that you can afford and find. Try to use as many organic, local, and homegrown ingredients you can find. Many commercial dried herbs and spices are irradiated so these are important to purchase either as organic or nonirradiated.

But remember: The most important thing to do is enjoy your food while you are eating healthy. Healthy days and nourishing ways will lead to lots more healthy days. Bon appétit!
